These days we are living a life we could not have imagined a month ago. We can’t just change the channel. Uncertainty and anxiety interconnect with having to figure out how to home school our children, how to get our groceries, how to have a Zoom meeting in a corner of our apartment. Our interpersonal social connectivity is broken.

While we can still connect to friends across the globe with just the swipe of our phone and shop online at any time for almost anything and have the items in our hands the next day, many of the ways of living we were so used to are not available to us right now.

Our previous experience of ease and abundance had helped create a culture that wanted things now and expected things instantly.

When something or someone appeared to be holding up what we were waiting for, they became a target of our irritation and anger, and this resulted in rash decisions and poor outcomes. The fact is we have forgotten how to let things happen at their own page. Increasingly we were ignoring the option of waiting patiently and choosing impatience instead.

At this moment in time, we need to learn that in many situations, tolerance is vital.

Patience and tolerance are good for our health and well-being. According to a November 2018 NY Times article about patience, “The virtue is associated with a variety of positive health outcomes, such as reducing depression and other negative emotions. Researchers have also concluded that patient people exhibit more prosocial behaviours, like empathy, and are more likely to display generosity and compassion.”

We Have to Do Things Differently

Impatience leads to anger and stress, anger and stress lead to bad choices, and bad choices lead to unsatisfactory outcomes, which can lead to more impatience. This is a vicious cycle that we need to alter.

Many women have found the Transcendental Meditation technique to be a useful tool for managing their emotions and peace of mind. It is a technique that you can easily do in the comfort of your own home and it does not require any system of belief or change of lifestyle.

TM works from the inside out by dissolving deep-rooted stress, making us more calm and resilient. It gives us the foundation to take control of our lives and to cope with stress, anger and impatience, and allows us to experience more joy in our lives, no matter what the circumstances.

Becoming impatient may be our first response to obstacles, but it is not necessarily the best response. The Transcendental Meditation technique allows us to release stress, broaden our comprehension, become more compassionateand react more appropriately. It’s time to realize that sometimes patience is a virtue and with TM, it is not that hard to achive.
